Marine Life at Diaz Beach
🌊 Diaz Beach is part of the Cape Point Marine Protected Area, where two oceans meet (Atlantic & Indian). This mix of warm and cold currents creates a unique habitat for marine life.
🐬 Dolphins – Look out for common dolphins and bottlenose dolphins playing in the waves, especially in the morning.
🐋 Whales (Seasonal: June – November) – Southern Right Whales migrate past this coastline. Humpback and Bryde’s whales are also sometimes seen offshore.
🦭 Cape Fur Seals – Often spotted in the water or resting on nearby rocks.
🦈 Sharks – While bronze whaler sharks, sevengill sharks, and great whites inhabit these waters, they stay further offshore.
🦀 Rock Pools & Intertidal Life – Explore the rocky sections to find sea anemones, starfish, crabs, and small fish in the tidal pools.
🐦 Seabirds – The cliffs above Diaz Beach are home to cormorants, black oystercatchers, and even fish eagles.
Conservation Tip: Diaz Beach is a protected marine area—no fishing, shell collecting, or disturbing wildlife. Keep a respectful distance from animals.
